Nice Try

Abdz.do→

Nice Try is an apparel brand playing on ambiguity. A tribute to the almosts, the legally gray, and the fine print of reality. It’s a wearable irony, designed to make you look twice. Read carefully, or don’t.

Idea

This self-initiated project began with a single idea: a typeface that refuses to behave. I set out to design a fluid system that breaks the dogmas of type design, adding weight not through mass, but through stroke. As the typeface took shape, it naturally expanded beyond the screen, evolving into a merch brand launched under the same name.

The brand typeface has two dynamic axes. Nice Try Variable ranges from tight, condensed forms to open, perfectly readable structures. The typeface is available for purchase at Type Department.

Merch Idea

Nice Try is a brand that refuses to “land.” Instead, it invites exploration, offering the freedom to move between rigid design and fluid expression, constantly finding new possibilities at every turn. With a name that reads like a smirk, Nice Try plays with expectations, refusing to land on a single, fixed identity. Every piece—from long sleeves to tote bags—is a wearable nod to imperfection, a design language built around the art of “good enough.”

Brand Graphics

The ever-shifting typeface is paired with rough, black-and-white graphics. Pixel distortions, sketch-like strokes, and improvised text art blur the line between design and accident—questioning whether what you’re seeing is deliberate, unfinished, or both. Imperfection becomes the point, turning ambiguity into a recognizable signature.

The “good enough” aesthetic keeps the viewer guessing — was this roughness intentional, or just left unfinished?

Compositions embrace imperfection. Boundaries blur, rules bend. What feels like a mistake becomes the style. What seems temporary ends up lasting.
